Bicester – Accessibility

The brief:

The Value Retail group have a proactive outlook, and after a presentation on accessibility were keen to start upgrading sites in line with the Disability Discrimination Act (UK). Bicester Village, as the flagship UK site, was first in line.

What I did:

  • Accessibility audit and planning to develop Bicester Village website to Level 3 of WAI guidelines (‘AAA’ standard).
  • Coding of fully accessible web templates viewable in text browser (Lynx) and conforming to web standards best practice.

The result:

The ‘AAA’ accessible site was launched in March 2005, one of the first consumer sites in the UK and globally to achieve the standard. Other sites in the Value Retail group will follow.
